  In my youth, I had the privilege of spending summers in Europe and winters in the prairie Midwest, and the last seven years I have spent learning from and being mentored by some of the most visionary people in the Bay Area. While the nuances of my life and design heritage impact my preferences, there are a few rules I follow to make certain that I’m achieving the client’s aesthetic, rather than being driven by my own tastes. First, listen to the client. Second, challenge the client. And third, don’t be concerned with trends. And when it comes to the floor, to each design its own. Flooring is crazy important, but sometimes it should be quiet.
